Fairfax
County Parkway is located in Fairfax
County, Virginia, between U.S. Route
1 at the southern terminus and State
Route 7 at the northern terminus.
The limits of the Fairfax County Parkway
– Phase 3 Project (the Phase 3 Project)
are from the Franconia Springfield
Parkway approximately 0.5 miles to
the south along the alignment of existing
Rolling Road to the north end of the
Fairfax County Parkway Phase 1 and
2 Project.
The Virginia Department of Transportation
is the Owner and will perpetually
maintain the roadway and bridge after
the completion of the Project. The
Federal Highway Administration, Eastern
Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD),
as VDOT’s representative on the Project,
awarded the design-build project to
Shirley Design/Build, LLC in December
of 2009. The Project is 100% funded
by the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act funds and will include:

Construction of a six-lane divided,
limited access highway within the
project right-of-way;

Modification of the alignment of
the ramps on the south side of the
Franconia Springfield Parkway interchange
with existing Rolling Road;
- Relocation
of Rolling Road including a new
bridge carrying Relocated Rolling
Road over Fairfax County Parkway;
- Construction
of new noise barriers along portions
of Fairfax County Parkway, Relocated
Rolling Road.
- Construction
of a new shared use path along Relocated
Rolling Road.
EFLHD issued a notice to proceed to
Shirley Design/Build, LLC on February
18, 2010 to start the design phase
of the project. Construction of the
Project will begin in the fall of
2010 and will complete in the summer
of 2012.
